Welcome to the North Texas Chapter of AAAA
As we kickoff 2016 I would remind chapter members to vote for the board positions currently up for election. Chapter President, Secretary, Vice President of Events, and Vice President for Military Affairs are at stake. Voting ends on February 29th. Results will be announced at the first quarter dinner meeting tentatively set for March 24th.
This year's events are starting to take shape. Our First Quarter Dinner Meeting will feature Ms. Lisa Atherton, Senior Vice President, Military Programs at Bell Helicopter. This is a first time in a decade that we will have an Industry Executive speak to the group. Lisa is a very dynamic leader and promises to be very insightful. This event is tentatively scheduled for March 24th at a location to be announced.
North Texas Chapter is working with AAAA National to send two people to the upcoming April 2016 Summit in Atlanta. Larry Ginder, our current VP for Events will be the sponsored Chapter Officer and 2–149 GSAB will be nominating a deserving soldier again this year. This is a wonderful opportunity to reward deserving individual members for their great support to the chapter and provide them exposure to the larger body of events and offerings of the association.
Our second quarter has the possibility of two events with a dinner meeting with newly installed Aviation Hall of Fame member GEN (Ret) J. D. Thurman and another dinner meeting with BG Bob Marion, current PEO Aviation for the Army. While the dates are not firm, I would plan on one event in May and one in June. Expect that the May event will offer the opportunity to become a life time AAAA member for a one time price of $250.00. To get this discounted life membership you must be present at the event.
Third and Fourth quarters will have our Scholarship Golf Tournament and Holiday Reception. While our 2015 golf tournament had a smaller turnout than previous years, our Holiday Reception was our largest event in my eight years as President. Let's strive to increase attendance at both events in 2016.
Lastly, I would like to solicit your help in recruiting new AAAA members. Bill Gavora is our VP for Membership. Bill will be canvassing event attendees for membership support as well as working with Dave Downey, our VP for Industry Affairs, for increasing corporate membership. We have seen a steady decline in our Chapter membership numbers over the last few years and look to halt and reverse this trend. Any and all suggestions to increase membership are welcome. Please become an advocate for AAAA and your North Texas Chapter.
